Showing people the way and telling them the truth!

Our History

My name is Lora Brown. I joined the International Order of Rainbow for Girls as a 12-year old in June of 1979. "Rainbow" is a junior order of Freemasonry for the daughters of Masons and Rainbow Girls' friends. I was very active in Rainbow for 7 years. I held all but 5 of the regular and installing offices. I was elected to preside as Worthy Advisor of the local Assembly and participate on the state level of Rainbow as Grand Representative.

In 1985, at age 18, I accepted Jesus Christ into my heart through my home church. A Christian mentor of mine, whom I greatly respected and trusted, urged me to leave Rainbow because of its secrecy. However, this reason was not satisfactory to me. I needed to know exactly how and why Rainbow was wrong. I began studying and researching Freemasonry but didn't find any sufficient literature about Rainbow specifically.

My study of Freemasonry and Rainbow grew in intensity until I finally trusted Jesus and submitted an official request for a withdrawal from Rainbow at age 19. The local Assembly never granted my withdrawal. Instead, two years later at age 21, they bestowed a Majority Card upon me, an honorary, life-time membership, granting me all the rights and privileges of a regular member except holding office and balloting. They wanted me to come back to Rainbow, go through my Majority Service and then join Eastern Star. Eastern Star is an affiliated adult order for the wives of Masons, past Rainbow Girls and past Job's Daughters who have reached the age of majority, which is 21.

I continued to research Masonry throughout those two years and then was called by God into ministry in 1986 during devotions when I read in the Holy Bible Ephesians 5:11 which states, "Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them." In 1989, I put a name to this ministry: "RoofTop Ministries". ROOFTOP is an acronym for "Rescued Out Of Freemasonry: Testimony of Prayer".

history

This name is loosely based upon two Scriptures:

  • "Therefore whatsoever ye have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light; and that which ye have spoken in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed upon the housetops." (Luke 12:3 KJV)
  • "What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops." (Matthew 10:27 KJV)

The associate pastor of a local church asked me to give a testimony of my Rainbow participation and subsequent withdrawal during the Sunday evening service. This speech included the information I had gathered on Freemasonry. I began to lecture frequently to a wide variety of churches, Sunday school classes, camps, and whenever else the opportunity arose. I created a web site to have a larger outreach. As news of Rooftop Ministries grew, the Lord sent me many people to consult with on the internet, over the phone and in person.

I became involved with numerous conferences, asking to be a speaker on the topic of Freemasonry and its affiliated Masonic orders for women and children. I was also a participant in these conferences which was a wonderful opportunity to expand my knowledge of the cult phenomenon and to network with others in this field. I've spoken throughout the USA in several venues, to a group of American students who were camping in Canada and during a 10-week Sunday school class for American teens at a school in the Dominican Republic, West Indies. My Bible professor invited me back to his classes several years after I graduated to present a series on "General Cult Awareness" and "The Occult" to his Bible students. I organized my own counter-cult conference and invited Christian speakers that I had come across while researching cults.

Rooftop started out small but has grown and morphed throughout these past 25 years, but its emphasis remains the same. "We are a unique evangelical organization specifically geared towards all persons affiliated with any Masonic order for women and children. We seek to help prevent, intervene in and recover from cult participation and assist concerned others with same by providing a web site, literature, consultations and lectures to the public." We pre-evangelize people before they are reached by the cults, evangelize the cults, and re-evangelize past members of cults. Our Mission Statement is, "Showing people the way and telling them the truth; that only through Jesus Christ may we have eternal life."

I have developed helpful literature including tracts, CDs, DVDs of previous lectures and brief biographical sketches of various orders affiliated with Masonry. I am co-author of the booklet, "Death, Burial & Resurrection in the Masonic Lodge" (by Duane Washum of Ex-Masons for Jesus in 2011). I authored three booklets; "Not-So-Secret Societies", "Secret Societies: A Look From the Inside Out" (2009), and "Renounce Your Rainbow Promises" (2011).

I have participated in Ex-Masons For Jesus since 1995 and am on their Board of Directors as of 2011. I have been a member of Evangelical Ministries to New Religions since 1997. For a detailed account of my experience in this secret society, read "Lora's Rainbow Story" located on the Testimonies page.
